Betty Bowen, 86, passed away on Tuesday, June 11, 2024, surrounded by her loving family.
Betty was born in Scott County, Virginia, to Ray H. Bowen, Sr., and Eva Mae Bowen.
She later moved to Wise, VA, with her husband, Denver, where together they raised seven children.
Betty was a homemaker and a cook for the Wise County School System. She was known for her cooking and won awards for her delicious fried apple pies.
Betty was a devout Christian and member of Hurricane Bethel Chapel Freewill Baptist Church in Wise, VA.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Denver L. Bowen; and several brothers and sisters.
Betty is survived by her children, Kathy and Norris Bolling of Newberry, SC, Mildred and Lewis Balthis of Wise, VA, Donna and Phil Carter of Jonesville, VA, Chris and Tammy Bowen of Luray, VA, Trish and Brad Shelton of Kingsport, TN, Shelia and Marty Davis of Big Stone Gap, VA, and Samantha and Joe Smith of Gate City, VA; sisters, Anita Mullins and Joyce Bishop; brother, Sam Bowen; as well as numerous loving grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.
Funeral services for Betty Bowen will be conducted at 7:00 P.M. Friday, June 14, 2024 at the Sturgill Funeral Home Chapel in Wise, VA with Rev. Mike Jordan officiating. Family will receive friends from 6:00 P.M. till time of services at 7:00 P.M. Friday at the Sturgill Funeral Home in Wise, VA. Graveside committal services and burial will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, June 15, 2024 in the Beverly Cemetery. Family and friends will meet at 10:40 A.M. Saturday at the funeral home to go to the cemetery in procession. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 207 North Boone Street, Suite #25, Johnson City, TN 37604 and American Diabetes Association, P.O.
