NORTON, VA.                      DECEMBER 28, 2022

Benjamin Dwayne Scott, just 56 years old, of Norton, Virginia, passed away unexpectedly at home on Wednesday, December 14, 2022, in Church Hill, Tennessee.

Ben was preceded in death by his parents, Brownie and Reva Scott of Guest River, VA and his brother, John Scott.

Surviving are his wife of 32 years, Michele (Shelly) Scott; two daughters, Cassandra Cuneo and Rebecca (Andrew) Sturgill; four grandchildren, Allison, Peyton, David and Riley—each of whom he loved to spend time with. He was known as Papaw and wore that name with pride. He is also survived by his niece, Tiffany (Sammy) Gilley, who was very special to his heart. There are too many other family members to name, but he will be missed by all.

How do you begin to remember someone you have a history with for 37 years, married/together for 32 years, and really do them justice? There is so much that I could tell you about this man that it would be the size of a book. Ben was such a good guy who loved everyone. He always helped the ladies, lent the guys a hand, and protected the animals. He respected all life and hated killing anything, even cutting tree branches. That is how much he loved life. Ben had no biological children, yet there was no doubt Cassie and Becky were his daughters if you were to ask him. He was there for them all their lives, from changing their diapers to walking them down the aisle and having their own children. Ahhh, heck, once the grandkids came, it was on then. Ben loved his grandbabies, and nobody better mess with them. He even gained a son, Drew, when Becky married. Initially, he was a little unsure, but Ben worked hard to teach him along the way and couldn't be prouder of the man Drew grew to be. Family always came first in Ben's thoughts and actions. He was a jokester, which his kids and grandkids can attest, from teasing them or their friends—like when he asked them to hold his teeth while at the dinner table.

Ben worked in construction, became a master carpenter, then moved into facilities management and did well with ManTech. When our family moved to Florida, he started in a maintenance technician position until he had a work accident and fell off a roof, which became the turning point in his life. Unfortunately, Ben's health issues, which he could keep at bay with a physical job, worsened, and he became disabled. Even so, he tried to do small home projects when he could. Everyone who knew Ben would tell you he was a professional and everything had to be done just right. If Ben built it, it would last longer than the house it was built for. He did not do anything halfway, which is how he lived his life—all the way or nothing.

Ben loved me, and although we had a heck of a ride, I wouldn't have changed it for the world. You're now in Heaven with Johnny and everyone you have been missing for a while. Rest easy, baby, I love you, and that will never change. Till we meet again!

The family will receive friends Saturday, January 7, 2023 from 12:30 P.M. till 2:00 P.M. at the Sturgill Funeral Home in Wise, Virginia. A memorial service will follow at 2:00 P.M. with Pastor Darrell Bolling officiating. A private graveside committal service and burial will be held at a later date at the Scott Cemetery in Norton, Virginia.
