Arvil McConnell, Jr. 58, died at his home in Coeburn, Virginia on Wednesday, August 21, 2013. The son of the late Arvil Sr. and Nannie McConnell, he lived in Coeburn all his life.
Arvil began working with his dad and papaw as a teenager laying brick and block. He and Arvil Sr. later built custom homes. This sparked his love for woodworking. He spent countless hours creating furniture from logs produced from the sawmill he built. One of his creations was a tree house for his grandsons following Tyler’s blueprint. Arvil was happiest helping anyone in any way he could.
He worked for Paramont Coal/Alpha Natural Resources for 24 years running heavy equipment.
Surviving are his wife and best friend, Susie (Pannell) McConnell, whom he shared 39 wonderful years of marriage; a son Jason of Pottstown, PA.; two sisters, Sherry Laughters of Coeburn, Virginia and Renae Paschall of Raleigh, N.C.; one brother, Al McConnell of Austin, Texas; two grandsons, Tyler and Ryan. Family was light of his life.
The family will receive friends Friday, August 23, 2013 4:30 P.M. to 7:30 P.M. at the Sturgill Funeral Home 310 6th Street NW Coeburn, Virginia. Funeral Services will follow at 7:30 P.M. in the Sturgill Funeral Home Chapel Coeburn with Pastor Wayne Perry officiating. Graveside Services will be conducted 11 A.M. Saturday, August 24, 2013 at the Greenwood Acres Cemetery Coeburn, Virginia. In Lieu of Flowers Memorial Contributions may be made in his name to Community Freewill Baptist Church Coeburn, Virginia.
